    Here there, ERNies!

As of late, there has been a large request for IC audio dramas for the LORE podcast.

And, well. With the idea being bounced between Kormok, Balroon and I... We decided to go ahead and do it!

At the beginning of every podcast we will have scenes that will be voice acted by the Roleplayers of the Earthen Ring server!

And, well. We have plenty of ideas, and we would love to hear the Earthen Ring’s suggestions and ideas as far as voice acting goes.

At the end of the post will be an application process, but before you go on to fill it out and send it to me, please do the following first and read over the rules and needed items.

    --

    1. First off, as much I will love to have everyone at some point, keep in mind that Kormok is writing these IC dramas, we may do some things that may go with major Earthen Ring plots, or simple tavern talk. You may not be picked for some time due to voice specifications, as well as technical specifications.

You volunteer with the idea that you will not get butthurt if you are not picked. I will keep your application and your voice acting on file for if we need you.

    2. You need a microphone (obviously), but not only just a microphone, one that will not collect a lot of noise, good quality ones. You can usually find a good quality one for about 35+

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000J4WPW8/ref=asc_df_B000J4WPW81849115?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B000J4WPW8

That is my microphone, currently on sale for less than 30 dollars.

    3. Quiet! During recording process you cannot have excess background noise going on. You need to have some type of headphone item to cancel any echo that may go on.

    4. The proper programs: We use Skype. You can download it at : www.skype.com

    5. Patience. You will not always get the line right on the first time, and it takes a lot of concentration to get your character done right.

    EDIT: Also, Kormok's requirements!

The only things I really, truly require are:

    • A willingness to do multiple takes so we can get the right tone, inflection, and clarity. We might be able to understand each other on Mumble or Ventrilo, but once you add background noise, sound effects, and ambient chatter to a scene, the ability to understand someone talking goes way downhill. Enunciate clearly! Avoid breathing into the microphone!
    • The ability to accept constructive criticism.
    • A decent microphone and the ability to filter out or at least minimize background noise (no more Taldrus's family blacksmithing behind him!). Microphones are more sensitive than you realize.
    • A desire to either join me in recording to get the takes down, or an ability to record your own voice doing the takes.

Big battle scenes are hard. You can't generally shout into typical microphones and have it record properly, and simply increasing the volume of your voice after recording is not always possible (and tends to sound silly).

Also, while I might be writing/directing the audio dramas for the most part, I do not think it's fair (nor do I want) to be the only person handling the scripts.

And now, for the application process!

Oh I'm SO in. I am aware I might not fit the bill and I might not be chosen for a number of reasons, but still. I might have the accent and voice for a proper Draenei. Time will tell.

Rght now though, I lack a mic. Once I buy one I will apply and stuff. Awesome idea though.

I've been told that I can do a decent gnome voice...
  • January 6, 2012 3:15:15 PM EST
I can do a few but not sure my mic is up to the task.

Question: For our auditions, what exactly would you be looking for? Should our audition involve speech as, say, a character we're able to act as? Also, would you be looking for us to act as, say, our characters? Or NPCs? Or characters you'll be writing for the dramas?

You want Hamlet? I can do Hamlet.

Your character (If able) or specific races you may be able to voice. (Such as I can do goblin). Even just a basic rendition of your own voice works too.

I am terrible at voices, but my husband more than makes up for my deficit. I will prod him into submitting something. =3

This is something I would love to do. I have done several stage plays, but nothing like this. Only problem is that my main (Thalris) has been moved and I'm in the process of writing out how he is going to end. As for my other toons, they aren't real well known in the ERN due to me not RPing a lot lately, and I would only be able to do the voice of Deldoric, though I MIGHT be able to pull of Morganosh's voice. I will think about this and possiably submit something later.

But here is my question, what lines do you want us to submit exactly? Something we have written or something posted by yourself or Mox?

Whichever you like. Give me a sense of the character you are representing. Not everyone can do the deep orc voice off the bat, which is why I use modulation where necessary.

Very well. Then I may just do a audio journel entry of either Morg or Del then (Maybe both) Just to kinda show a bit about the character and who they are and how they act.

For further applicants, I'm going to slap together a quick introductory script with a few common phrases or greetings that will give me a better idea of your range and what sorts of sounds your microphone can pick up. Should have that up later tonight or tomorrow.

Never too late. Even if I don't use your talents right away, it's great to have a pool of talent to draw from if it's needed. :D
