Study of Draenei lore

So one race that I have always enjoyed playing and reading up on has been the Draenei. There are a tun of interesting theories and bits of information on them that I have found dotting the internet.

One of the bigger ones was that the Draenei before the first contact with the Naaru were actually magic based creatures that created their paradise via arcane energy. Only after the first visit with the Naaru do they become blessed with the knowledge of the light, extend their abilities, and attract the attention of the burning legion.

I love Draenei Lore, as well, and I'm praying for their to be more made in the future.

I read 'Rise of the Horde', recently, and it was probably one of the best books related to WoW I've read. Definately has a ton of really awsome Draenei Lore. If your a big fan of Draenei Lore, and you haven't read it yet, I'd suggest you do.

As I understand it, the Arcane (or their form of it) was indeed their primary source of energy and creation. The call of Sargeras and the Naaru is what lead them on their separates paths. As I understand it, at any rate.

Yeah I think that would also be an acceptable line of thought on their origins. I do enjoy the parallelism between the Draenei and blood elves though. Both find their roots in magic, both have a portion of their race driven towards fel energy by their lust for power, and both have to strive against that and embrace the call of the light given by the Naaru.

The Naaru will eventually turn out to be manipulative antagonists. To some, Fel energies are as divine and powerful as the Light. And the Naaru -have- admitted to be creating an army of their own out of the Light-worshiping Draenei and Blood Elves.

Lies and Slander! This one is enraged you would say such!

....On a serious note, that would be a strange twist that would -devastate- the draenei, and, potentially, all the light-wielders, if it turns out as I think it will turn out to be, that the Naaru turn out to be the very source of the Light.

-gets out her Wyst's insane theories book-

    Ahem..
I postulate that Light and Shadow are the same thing mirrored. Thus if you are shadow you can move to the light and vice versa.  I know that is an odd way to start the conversation but .. See I think Naruu and their counterpoints on the shadowy side of things (Void beasts?.. the resultant situation when a naruu is drained), dictates that they are elementals in nature. The man behind the curtain (woman?) is not something manipulating the naruu nor the legion as it were, but the normal balancing that must take place to keep existance going.

If either side wins , we all lose.

** all the above is my opinion and not ment to dictate anyone elses understanding/comfort with any established lore.

I always appreciate others searching out more knowledge on, perhaps, one of the most difficult races to role play properly.

Kayonie, you are correct in that the Draenei, then known as Eredar, were a civilization based on arcane power. They built many wonderful cities, including the capital city of Mac'Aree, who's streets and rivers were lined with glittering gems. It was their powerful use of the arcane that granted them near-immortality and, ultimately, lead to the Burning Legion finding them.

Of the three leaders of the Eredar, Archimonde and Kil'jaden joined the Legion, as well as over 90% of the population. Velan and the rest of the 10% refused to join and a civil war broke out. Eventually the Naaru came and rescued Velan and the outcast Eredar, or "Draenei." The Naaru then taught the Draenei the ways of the Light on their journey to find a new home. When their interdimentional ship's Naaru pilot fell ill, the ship crash landed on planet we know today as Draenor. The remains of the ship, Oshu'gun, can be seen today in Nagrand.

One of my favorite sources and insight into the draenei culture is this article by David Bowers of WoW Insider. If you've read it before, then you might know his speculation of the draenei is useful for RPers wishing to play as one. If not, then enjoy:
